Our furniture section reflects the change in interior tastes.  We are offering a wonderful sideboard retailed by Heals.  This particular example was purchased directly from the Heals’ Festival of Britain stand, back in 1952 and has remained in the same family ever since.  The family purchased a wall cupboard at the same time, which we are also offering.  In addition to these more contemporary pieces we have an Astro Spider circular table designed by Victor Wilkins for G-plan and a teak extending table with six chairs by Nils Jonsson designed for Swedish manufactures Troeds amongst several other ‘modern’ lots.  Of course, we still have the more tradition pick of furniture, our auctioneer’s favourite is lot 965, a very fine Windsor chair.

Whilst the following lot will not suit every pocket, it is a stunning piece of jewellery.  Lot 652, with a primary stone measuring 5.27ct and of VS clarity it represents an outstanding ring.  It is accompanied by a gemological certificate, confirming its size, colour and clarity. If this is a little pricey, we do have a good number of other interesting and affordable gems, just in time for the festive period.

An item of local interest offered in this month’s auction is a watch given by one artist of international renown to another.  Barbara Hepworth met Peter Lanyon, a local lad born in St Ives, through her husband Ben Nicholson.  They quickly developed an enduring life long friendship.  Barbara gave Peter a wristwatch in 1937, which he wore for many years.  Several years later it was subject to an accident in his studio when it fell into a tin of vermillion paint.  Barbara arranged for the watch to be cleaned and restored by a mutual friend. Regrettably Peter met his untimely death in a glider accident, before it could be returned.  The restorer, our vendor, endeavoured to return to the family, whereupon they suggested that he might keep the watch in leu of his bill.

Keeping to a Christmas theme we do have an interesting selection of toys.  In addition to items of Hornby and German bisque head dolls we are offering a huge selection of Meccano.  Often considered to be a classic Christmas standby the engineering toy was designed to inspire new generations of practical boys and girls.  Mostly consigned from one vendor, combined it would allow anyone to fufill their wildest engineering dreams, with almost every conceivable cog, wheel, beam and driveshaft.

Currently the auction can be viewed online, and initial responses have been very good.  If you are unable to attend the sale in person we would be pleased to bid on your behalf as a commission or arrange a telephone bid.  Online bidding is also available through both TheSaleroom.com and Easylive.

VEWING DAYS – Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th November between 10am to 4pm and on sale day from 9am.  The auction will commence at 10 o’clock.  We are currently accepting consignments for our first sale of 2025, to take place on Friday 17th January
