Post Sale Highlights

Antiques, Fine Art & Collectables Friday 17th October 2025

Post-sale report

Our latest sale was packed with excitement, and several lots soared well above expectations, drawing attention from bidders in the room and across the globe.

Some eagle-eyed bidders spotted a rare Roger Taylor vinyl tucked away in Lot 87. The vendor, who had once attended school with the Queen drummer, was in the room and watched in amazement as the bidding skyrocketed. The record eventually sold for an incredible £1,400.

We were delighted to offer a large and varied collection of steam engines, which attracted considerable interest from both room bidders and online participants. The standout piece was a Charles Burrell traction engine model, which achieved £1,400, with many other lots reaching between £300–£600.

Our oriental section proved especially strong, with one notable surprise being a Chinese Tang-style warrior figure that sailed past its estimate. Competitive bidding saw it reach a well-above-expected result.

Lot 394, a 19th Century Ottoman robe, had been drawing interest well before sale day. Made of rich red velvet with gilt bullion and detailed foliate decoration, it didn’t disappoint, selling for £950 to a European buyer. The vintage fashion section continued to impress, with a quantity of 19th & 20th Century shoes fetching over £1,000—yet another lot snapped up by an international bidder.

Our toy section delivered some fun surprises. A large set of Edwardian-style dolls house furniture sold for more than double its low estimate, while a 20th Century dolls house polyphon achieved £250.

With current volatility in gold and silver prices, predicting results is tricky—but several lots still performed impressively. A 9ct gold curb link watch chain reached £1,600, while a silver three-piece tea service sold for £1,500.

In today’s ever-changing climate, furniture can be hit or miss. However, a beautifully painted 19th Century bench stole the spotlight, achieving a very respectable £380. Our next auction is a 2 two day sale and scheduled for 27th & 28th November.  We will be accepting entries up to 10 days before the sale. If you wish to consign, we always recommend approaching us sooner rather than later. Mel and Guy would be delighted to hear from you.  Please call our saleroom
